DisOrient 2010: 'SECOND MOON'
SECOND MOON

MASAHIRO SUGANO | DRAMA | 90 MIN | USA| HDCAM | 2009

DIRECTOR: Masahiro Sugano

CAST: Andre Ing, Jennifer Shin, Jim Finn, Monte

PRODUCER: Sanghoon Lee

Masahiro Sugano's SECOND MOON follows the moral and emotional journey of Q (Andre Ing), an agent of an underground organization called Art of Love. The leader Don Jim (Jim Finn) encourages people to seek freedom in love and sexual engagements and he strictly forbids his agents from engaging in monogamous intimate relationships. Art of Love generates revenue by helping suburban housewives cheat on their husbands under the guise of free love.

Sugano pairs a rich cinematic vision with a provocative plot.  When Q meets M (Jennifer Shin), a transient Korean girl, he begins to violate the Art of Love code.  Q lets M stay one night at his place, and lets her stay longer when she develops a fever. But after M recovers, she starts cooking gourmet dishes. The seductive force of her food cripples Q's commitment to free love and jeopardizes his loyalty to Don Jim. Q has to choose between free love and one love  in his quest for ultimate happiness. ~ Laura Fong

"Sugano's stylish oddity plays like someone in the projection booth mistakenly ran simultaneous prints of films by Wong Kar-wai, Quentin Tarantino and Hal Hartley." ~ Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
