QSF's lively, contemporary program for all ages will feature music by Michael Jackson, Chick Corea, the Beatles, Jeremy Cohen, and Giovanni Solima, as well as some tangos and regional folk music from Mongolia.
Grammy nominees for their last three CD releases and Argentine Consulate International Tango competition winners (New York, 2004), Quartet San Francisco expresses itself in its agility and standout virtuosic playing. QSF was founded in 2001 by celebrated Bay Area violinist and composer-arranger Jeremy Cohen. He is joined by violinist Steve Huber, violist Chad Kaltinger, and cellist Andres Vera. As crossover specialists QSF excels in multiple styles, from jazz to tango, pop to funk, blues to bluegrass, gypsy swing to big band, and beyond.
Winning praise for their eclectic programming and Cohen's innovative arrangements of tango, jazz, and pop music, and their energetic readings of contemporary composers, this string quartet brings a refreshingly new repertoire to the chamber music tradition with, as the Washington Post says,breezy wit, fine technical finish and a genuine feeling for musical idiom. QSFs most recent release, Pacific Premieres: New Works by California Composers (2013), received two Grammy nominations for composers Gordon Goodwin and Vince Mendoza. Previous recordings include QSF Plays Brubeck (2009), Whirled Chamber Music (2007), and Latigo (2006). All three discs received Grammy nominations for Best Classical Crossover CD and two were also awarded nominations for Best Engineered, Classical.
