Japan Creative Arts

~ Moving the World ! ~ Bellevue World Taiko Festival 2014

Taiko, art of drumming from Japan with an increasing number of fans all over the world.
In the United States, Taiko began its popularity in San Francisco. After provided the concerts of world renowned Taiko Group "Ondekoza" throughout the US in the late 70's, the popularity quickly spread all over the entire nation. Currently there are over 300 groups in US and Taiko has served as a gateway to sparking the interests in Japanese culture and customs.
Japan Creative Arts began in October of 2009 in the Seattle/Bellevue area with the purpose of spreading and sharing the rich and profound Japanese culture, starting with the Taiko, and promoting mutual understanding of cultures through music. Our Taiko School currently has about 100 students from age four to sixty.
We will be holding the Bellevue World Taiko Festival in hopes that we will be able to share a higher level of Japanese Culture through guest performers from Japan and make a tight relationship in community. We hope that we can share an under-standing that goes beyond words, and become one through music.
The strength, elegance and sound of the Taiko that resonates in our hearts, serves as the core for this festival, and we hope that through the festival more and more people will have the opportunity deepen their interest in Japan.

BRING TAIKO BACK TO THE TOHOKU

A portion of ticket sales and donations will purchase drums for Tohoku

The Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, caused unimaginable damage in Tohoku.  Even now, the effects can be felt throughout the region, and a full recovery is still a long way off.
In cooperation with Bellevue College, The School of Taiko held a fundraising event on May 11 , 2011, called "ACT for JAPAN", and was able to donate $4,200 to Peace Winds America for reconstruction efforts.  This money supported local infrastructures directly after the earthquake, but now that three years have passed, there is still a long list of ways in which the area needs support.  One important issue is how to support the education of children affected by the disaster.  We have decided to help the schools that lost their ability to learn music because of the disaster by providing them with taiko drums and, eventually, a variety of traditional Japanese instruments.  A portion of ticket sales and donations will be used to purchase drums for Tohoku schools in need.
