Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the fastest-growing complex neurodevelopment disorder with 1,148% growth rate, continues to rise in its prevalence, now affecting up to 1 in 68 birth in the USA, according to the latest CDC report. Autism has become a huge healthcare burden and global threat.
To increase awareness of autism spectrum disorders, advocate for the needs of individuals and their families affected by Autism, and spread love and support in the community, American Chinese Medical Exchange Society (ACMES ) is proudly sponsoring "The Rumble of Spring - Spring Love for Autism" concert following its annual spring conference. Miss Hui Weng, Chinese Zither player, will perform 6 masterpieces of Zither music with varied styles including free improvisation with dancers, Miss Weng is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Contemporary Improvisation at the New England Conservatory (NEC). As the first Guzheng player at NEC, Hui primarily studies improvisation with Dr. Hankus Netsky, and she is also guided by Ms. Eden MacAdam- Somer and Professor Ran Blake. By performing in a multicultural and academic environment, Hui is exploring a new way of Guzheng musical innovation and developing her own modern style of Guzheng performance by seeking for the perfect combination between classical music and contemporary improvisation.
Before her time at NEC, Hui earned a Bachelor of Music in Guzheng performance from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, studying with Professor Wang Zhou, a renowned master of the traditional Guzheng and music educator in China. Hui was awarded a gold medal National Rising Star and Oriental Artist, among others for her performances in major national and international competitions.
In January of 2011, Hui successfully held her debut solo concert in Beijing and released her first album <Men of Letters>. In the same year, Hui made her American debut "Twin Flowers" in Boston. Two years later, Hui improvised for the "Film Noir" concert at Jordan Hall. Hui will receive her Master's Degree in Contemporary Improvisation from the New England Conservatory in June of 2014.
