FLAMENCO WORKSHOP: Cante y baile y fiesta
La Alhambra de Atlanta
Decatur, GA
Share this event:

Flamenco singing & dance & fiesta

Singing students learn how to put pellizcos in their cante, reacting to and leading dancers.  Dance students learn pasos & llamadas for the fiesta.  Everyone gets a lesson in structure of Flamenco components, putting the idea of improvisation from formidable to formable.

Accompanists are welcome in the classes, because these great artists have a lot of guidance to offer for the role of the guitarist.

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD PLAN TO BRING MATERIAL TO PERFORM IN THE CLASSES & FIESTAS FOR COACHING/REACTION/IMPROVEMENT;  ALL STUDENTS SHOULD ALSO BE PREPARED TO LEARN NEW MATERIAL.

Class dates: April 17, 18, 19

Class time: 6:30 - 9:30 PM

Program*:
6:30 - 7:45 PM cante: new letras + coaching on pellizcos in existing letras

7:45 - 8:15 PM dance: new pasos & llamadas for pataitas

8:15 - 9:30 PM cuadro: codes & communication between musicians & dancers: trying new material for 30 minutes & coaching on existing material for 45 minutes (approximately) -- coaching for dance, cante, apoyo, communication/codes, etc.  Lecture on structure of Flamenco music/dance codes.

*Friday night cuadro block is replaced by fiesta in which students are doing more and teachers are doing less, and students and teachers are encouraged to linger after class time if they wish to socialize and/or continue the Flamenco fun.  Fiesta will include snacks and una copa de vino for each person.  The fiesta is the time for students to reach outside of the 'por fiesta' material as well, to try other palos while the aire is there.

Joaquín Encinias, Flamenco dancer is part of one of America's few flamenco families, experiencing the art form as a way of life from his grandmother Clarita and mother Eva Encinias. He began his first lessons in Flamenco from his grandmother, Clarita, and began performing at age five.
By age 12, he became a soloist in his mother's company, Ritmo Flamenco. Encinias has had the tremendous opportunity to work closely with world-renowned artists including Antonio Canales, Eva La Yerbabuena, Los Farrucos, and Manolete, Carmen La Talegona, and Mercedes Amaya.

Also, in 1999, The National Conservatory of Flamenco Arts opened under the direction of Encinias, his mother Eva, and sister Marisol. Since that time, Encinias has developed his unique teaching framework, the only codified and copy-written Flamenco teaching methodology in the United States of America. As Artistic Director of Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, Encinias has amassed a dance repertory collection of over 20 pieces of original Flamenco choreography from some of the most influential Flamenco artists in the world. Today, he is one of the most highly sought-after flamenco artists and instructors in the nation because of his unique exposition of technique and craft. His musical talent and deep understanding of the language of Flamenco make him an exceptional and valuable instructor and choreographer.
