For our first big show of 2014, we are proud to welcome back two of our favorite artists: the very talented Nickodemus of N.Y.'s Turntables on the Hudson and Wonderwheel Recordings and The Spy From Cairo. Last January's show with them was one of our best of the year (some would probably THE best) so of course we're looking forward to it. It's also the 10th Anniversary of Nick's label, Wonderwheel Recordings, so we couldn't be more thrilled to celebrate it with him.
Nickodemus been touring as a DJ and collaborating with musicians all over the World since 1996. In addition to his own albums and remix albums, and eight Turntables on the Hudson compilations, his songs can be found on hundreds of compilations, several movies and TV shows. Nickodemus has done remixes for a wide range of artists including Billy Holiday, Nina Simone, Bebel Gilberto, Sultan Khan, Omar Farul Tekbilek, Thievery Corporation, Astor Piazzolla, The Pimps of Joytime, and many others. When he's not out on tour, in the studio, or eating pizza, Nick plans his special outdoor event: the eclectic, energetic, legendary NYC party: Turntables on the Hudson. On this night we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of his label, Wonderwheel Recordings. The Brooklyn-based label is rooted in the eclectic dancefloor sounds of the globe, with a roster that includes The Pimps of Joytime, The Spy From Cairo, The Real Live Show, Pernett, and many more. For his Dub Mission appearance, Nick has prepared a special set featuring a preview of his upcoming releases--The Egyptian Project (Six Degrees), Alsarah & The Nubatones (Wonderwheel) Hidden Treasures (Wonderwheel)--and favorite classics from the vault. www.facebook.com/Nickodemusnyc www.Nickodemus.com/ www.wonderwheelrecordings.com www.soundcloud.com/turntablesonthehudson Nick's top picks of 2013: http://blog.turntablelab.com/prince-klassen/2013/12/best-of-2013-nickodemus/
The Spy From Cairo --aka Moreno Visini, the artist formerly known as Zeb--has written hundreds of songs and produced more than ten albums in the last 14 years, including Organic Grooves albums, Zeb albums, and more recently, The Spy From Cairo albums. He has also contributed to countless collections, including Turntables on the Hudson and Buddha Bar Compilations. This talented musician and studio wizard has done around 100 remixes for artists as diverse as Natasha Atlas, Mr. Scruff, Quantic, Thunderball, Tosca, Billy Holiday, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Baba Maal, Astor Piazolla, Nickodemus, Novalima and many more. His live set on oud (featuring special guest performers) will highlight tunes from his brand new EP, Sparta, An exploration of classic Arabic, Turkish, and Persian melodies coupled with his signature dub and electronic sounds. www.wonderwheelrecordings.com/2013/08/26/the-spy-from-cairo-returns-with-this-is-not-sparta-ep/ www.zeb-thespyfromcairo.bandcamp.com www.soundcloud.com/zeb-the-spy-from-cairo www.myspace.com/zebthespyfromcairo
