"AMERICANA WOMEN" MOVIE PLUS MUSIC
"AMERICANA WOMEN" 'Roots Musicians - Women's Tales & Tunes' MOVIE PLUS MUSIC will be a Special Benefit Event for MusicBox Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit at the Salmon Bay Eagles on Saturday Evening - February 15th, 2014.
This BENEFIT is sponsored by the Washington Blues Society and The Salmon Bay Eagles (located at 5216 20th AVE NW, Seattle (Ballard), WA 98107.)
This will be Seattle's Premier Screening of the hour long, newly edited for 2014, music documentary film "AMERICANA WOMEN" 'Roots Musicians - Women's Tales & Tunes' produced Dyann Arthur on behalf of MusicBox Project.
The events are all OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
The evening will include a separate/optional DINNER (The main entree will be smothered pork chops with smashed potato/yams, salad, bread rolls and a dessert!) downstairs in the Eagles lounge for only $10, hosted by the Salmon Bay Eagles; PUBLIC WELCOME! Dinner served from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. (Dinner reservations must be made by 2/12/13 directly with the Salmon Bay Eagles by calling 206-783-7791).
The MAIN EVENT will be upstairs at the Salmon Bay Eagles in the large function hall with seating and a bar:
7:30 - 8:45 pm PREMIER DOCUMENTARY FILM SHOWING "AMERICANA WOMEN" 'Roots Musicians - Women's Tales & Tunes'.
This innovative and insightful music documentary will be available on DVD at the event - newly mastered with extensive extras including 80 minutes of music videos by artists featured in the film.
As a viewer you'll be mesmerized to learn about this group of trail-blazing and inspiring women roots musicians from Appalachian to Zydeco - that's "A to Z". It covers musical genres you'd expect: lots of blues, old time, Cajun, plus a few special niches of American musical roots you might not think of at all.
The film traces a straight line culturally from ninety three year old Ozark mountain fiddler Violet Hensley to up-and-coming eighteen year old Jacqueline Nassar seen at "Ground Zero Blues Club" in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
You'll see heavy hitters like Ruthie Foster, Eden Brent and Deanna Bogart, Alice Gerrard, Ann Savoy, Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Anna Roberts-Gevalt and some amazing women you never know existed - and who'd likely slip into oblivion if not the importance of MusicBox Project's work.
It'll be shown on a large screen, in the roomy upstairs function hall at Salmon Bay Eagles (located at 5216 20th AVE NW, Seattle (Ballard), WA 98107). There'll be plenty of seating and a no host bar.
But video recorded music isn't all you'll get for your $10 admission fee -which goes to help the worthwhile cause.
Following the SEATTLE MOVIE PREMIER will be an evening of LIVE BLUES & ROOTS MUSIC interspersed with a special half hour video "AMERICANA BLUES WOMEN" presentation edited specially for the Washington Blues Society as a thanks for sponsoring the event. This will include women not seen in the documentary like the late great DiAnne Price of Memphis blues fame, Debbie Davies, Delta blues artist Tricia Walker and more.
The benefit that costs only a $10 donation, will go until (at least)11 pm with live blues throughout the evening by local artists including: "The Shed Players" (Dave Douglas, Ken Dennis, Rick & Dyann Arthur), Marcia Kester. And our headliners "WITH LOVE" featuring Chris Ferguson, Sergey Ignatov, Julia Ignatova, Ilya Ignatov and Andre Zasypkin and Madison Campbell.
