Bob Salisbury will be featured on Los Angeles Theatre Organ Society's own fabulous Wurlitzer pipe organ at South Pasadena High School with a program that will make another grand comeback for the silent film era. At 2pm, the audience will relive the amazing silent film experience as Bob accompanies the feature length silent film, "Peter Pan".
Peter Pan (the boy who never grew up) looks for his shadow in the Darling family nursery, but awakens the children--Wendy, John, and Michael. Peter tells them about Never-Never Land, teaches them to fly, then guides them to his forest home, where he is the king of the Little Lost Boys. Tinker Bell (a fairy) becomes jealous of Wendy and persuades one of the boys to shoot her with an arrow. Wendy recovers and is adopted by the boys as their mother. Captain Hook, a notorious pirate, kidnaps the children after a fierce fight with Indians who are the children's friends and guardians. When Peter discovers that the children are missing, he goes to the pirate ship and frees them. The children fight the pirates and subdue them. Captain Hook is forced to walk the plank. Peter then returns with the children to their nursery where Wendy asks him to stay, but Peter can't and returns to his home in the woods.
You are also invited to come early as Bob will also present a pre-concert lecture at 1pm. His topic will be "Accompanying Silent Films". This informative presentation will be directed to organists as a general "how to", and will include an introduction to "what to listen for" in a silent movie score. This pre-concert presentation should be of great interest to LATOS members, organists, film buffs, and anyone who is new to the silent film experience.
