DOUG PETERSON free concert at Foundry Hall
Doug Peterson (www.dougpetersonmusic.com) approaches his music with irreverence and a sense of soul-felt sentimentality. With a sound like Gordon Lightfoot and Frank Zappa jamming at the Mad Hatter's tea party, he can move seamlessly from a folk ballad, to a melodic hard rock anthem, into a quirky geeky love song. All the while he engages his audience with his humor and some deeply personal stories. An evening with Doug is more than a concert it's a mad fantastical journey.
Doug Peterson grew up in Escanaba, taking piano lessons (often reluctantly) from first grade all the way through high school. After receiving his degree in music composition at Western Michigan University, a chance meeting drew Doug into the world of Renaissance festivals and Celtic music. Those experiences helped develop the exuberant and theatrical style that punctuates all of his performances to this day.
Currently, Doug Peterson is in the process of planning and writing music for his first completely professionally produced album. His influences include artists such as Glen Hansard, Billy Joel, Nick Cave, and Frank Zappa, along with bands like They Might Be Giants, The Beatles, Panic at the Disco, Led Zeppelin, and Smashing Pumpkins. Along with his tour, he is also designing a Kickstarter campaign to help fund his project.
