ELENA & LOS FULANOS
Elena & Los Fulanos is a bilingual folk rock band based in Washington, DC. Since 2011, they have been creating music that ranges from twangy, heartbreak-themed folk Americana, to soothing, introspective, violin-infused Latin rock. Influenced by front-woman Elena Lacayos experience growing up in two cultures (Nicaraguan and American), Elena & Los Fulanos creates a world where language and tradition meld with catchy melodies and inventive chords to enhance appreciation for diversity in an increasingly multi-cultural world. Their debut album, Miel Venenosa, earned a Washington Area Music Association (WAMMIE) nomination for Best Latin Recording in 2014.
Kino Musica plays danceable, soulful music from across the African diaspora. The members of Kino Musica draw inspiration from their musical and personal experiences, connecting inspiration from across Africa and its diaspora to create soulful music from Washington, DC for everyone. Formed in the spring of 2014, Kino Musica write and play what they call tropical blues; music expressions that embody the diversity of their influences and community. The melodies of the Horn of Africa are often the first creative source for songs that tell grounded and personal stories. The band creates a memorable sound, but puts on an energetic, and thoughtful live experience.
