New Day Rising 2013 Concerts
VocalPoint is singing to support Avenues for Homeless Youth.
Avenues provides emergency shelter, short term housing, and supportive services for homeless youth in a safe and nurturing environment.
The incredible Jearlyn Steele headlines our St. Paul concerts with her amazing talent!
The 80-voice Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota will also be joining as special guests.
VocalPoint is an intense choral experience that challenges people through music to build a better world. We build a program themed around worthy causes to raise awareness and funds. We have worked with such gifted musicians as Maria Jette, Steve Staruch, and KrisAnne Weiss. In 2012, we raised over $22,800 that will support of Open Arms of Minnesota, we hosted panels of the AIDS Quilt that were displayed around the performance space and we commissioned a piece by local composer Abbie Betinis.
Jearlyn Steele has performed at Penumbra Theater of St. Paul, the Old Log Theater in Excelsior, The Historical State Theater in downtown Minneapolis, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, and the Guthrie Theater. Jearlyn, along with her siblings, The Steeles, began a successful run of the pop/gospel musical "Gospel At Colonus" which made its way to Broadway in 1988 and finally to Carnegie Hall. After Colonus, Jearlyn recorded many national and local commercials for companies such as Wilson Leather, Marshall Fields, Slumberland, Aveda, Target and many more. Her voice can be heard on various CD's for national artists like Prince, with whom she has toured, George Clinton and Mavis Staples.
Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota prepares select high school singers for performances of the highest caliber for the widest possible audience. It supports its mission by presenting concerts, recordings, commissioning and performing new choral works, and by working collaboratively with the community at large to promote singing, specifically with school music programs and other music organizations.
