Kevin Carr (KC) Fiddler, Piper, teller of tales
KC is a soulful and exciting fiddle player, whose style draws from Irish, Quebecois, Appalachian and bagpiping roots. His performances are a mix of stories, fiddle and pipe tunes from traditional sources around the world. The sounds of Galician, Irish, Slovakian, French or Scottish pipes often punctuate his shows.
Kevin has taught at Festival of American fiddle tunes, Alsadair Fraser's Sierra fiddle camp, Puget Sound Guitar workshop, and a host of other music camps across the country, and performed in concerts and at dances in Europe, Canada and the USA for thirty years, both solo and with The Hillbillies from Mars ( eclectic trad), Les Tetes de Violon ( quebecois ), Wake the Dead ( Celtic Grateful Dead), and with Men of Worth's Celtic Christmas. He also currently plays with the Family Carr, which includes his wife Josie Mendelsohn, and son and daughter, Daniel and Molly Carr.
Kevin Carr: Bio I tell stories and play traditional folk instruments. From the Fillmore West to the Oregon Country Fair, from the former Soviet Union to Galicia, Spain, and from Alaska to Mexico, I've travelled to play with and learn from traditional musicians, to gather stories to share, and to connect with folks through the ecstatic medium of music. I do solo shows such as " The Other Pipes - exotic and little known Bagpiping traditions of the World", "Stories from the Musical Realms - Inspiration and the Music Between the Notes", and "Fiddle Fables - Stories by and about Fiddlers and Fiddling, with tunes appropriate and appropriated ". I Play with various groups: Wake the Dead - Intergalactic Roots Music ( formerly, the world's only all star grateful dead celtic jam band) www.wakethedead.org Hillbillies from Mars - traditional dance music from Mars, Appalachia, Ireland, Scotland, Galicia and points East, South, West and North. www.hillbilliesfrommars.com Les Tetes de Violon - Quebecois ( french canadian) fiddle music in a folk chamber ensemble. www.trentesouszero.com Winter's Carol, with the Men of Worth - Holiday Shows in the Gaelic spirit. www.menofworth.com Verdegaio - I play with Alexandre Cadarso and Javier Blanco from Galicia whenever we are on the same continent. Galician music with pipes, accordion, fiddle and mandolin. www.nsaio.org/verdegaio.
I GIVE FIDDLE WORKSHOPS on various styles of dance music - Irish, Galician, Quebecois, Old time. I have been on the faculty as fiddle instructor at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend , Washington several times, and have been coordinator of the tutorial program there for years. I have been on the faculty as fiddle teacher at Alasdair Fraser's Sierra fiddle camp, at Lark Camp in Mendocino, and I have been camp instrumentalist at Puget Sound Guitar workshop, and California Coast Music Camp. I've played for dances, told stories and given fiddle workshops at many dozens of dance camps, family camps, and music camps and festivals across the country and in Canada and Spain. MY SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS are informative and meet criteria for English arts education, as well as history of music. Kids of all ages love them, as do teachers.
