Super UnLedded

September 01, 2018 8:00 PM
As a lifelong Zep fan, guitarist Paul Franceschini always wanted to create a project that is a tribute to the greatest and most influential rock band ever. While he always performed some their music through the years, he never dedicated an entire show to just Zeppelin. In discussing a future project with a vocalist friend, inspiration struck: create an all acoustic Led Zeppelin tribute band that performs all of their acoustic tracks along with acoustic versions of their electric tunes and voilà, Super UnLedded was born! Finding musicians up to the task of an acoustic Zeppelin tribute band was surely a tough one, but finding a vocalist was almost impossible. Paul knew he had great musicians on drums/percussion and bass, but now was the task of finding the right voice. He nearly gave up on the project until vocalist Keith Adams answered the ad. All it took was two verses of Gallows Pole, and the band was certain that theyd found the final piece now they can put together a show that celebrates the Zeppelin sound with a different twist.

Joe Jack Talcom (from The Dead Milkmen)

September 06, 2018 8:00 PM
Joseph Genaro (Joe Jack Talcum) founded The Dead Milkmen in 1980, initially establishing the group as a bedroom-based home-recording project with a mythological back-story prior to their evolution into a traditional four-piece band by the summer of 1983 based in the city of Philadelphia. The members of the group regularly employed pseudonyms, and Genaro most frequently called himself "Joe Jack Talcum" (stemming from the character of Jack Talcum that Genaro had imagined as the leader of the band in their mythology) in the context of the group, although he also used the pseudonyms "Butterfly Fairweather" and "Jasper Thread" on certain records. Joe Jack Talcum has consistently recorded solo material since the early 1980s. Between 1984 and 1999, he self-released eight cassette tapes composed of home recorded songs. A four-piece group calling itself Butterfly Joe (after one of Genaro's pseudonyms, and featuring Dead Milkmen drummer Dean Sabatino) assembled to perform Joe Jack's solo material and released a self-titled, full-length album in 1999. The group went on indefinite hiatus in 2001.

The Mark Sweetman Trio

September 29, 2018 8:00 PM
These days the number of jazz musicians that truly understand what it means to be a jazz musician is growing scarcer than mice in a cat pound. Refreshingly, Mark Sweetman, the Canadian-born drummer, has yet to divert from the spiritually enriched sound, soul and life that he discovered in his childhood. Born in Toronto, Sweetman recalls a vibrant jazz scene where he would spend night after night in the back of a jazz club called Bourbon St., sipping on ice water, soaking up the energy and melting away with the vibrant sound. There he witnessed tremendous acts like Bill Evans and Chet Baker who taught him what it meant to play with everything from the inside out. Perhaps his greatest influence came while witnessing guitarist Sonny Greenwich roar deep with a tone no other guitarist can duplicate.
