The Brighton Dance Festival was founded in 2010 by Kathy King, in partnership with Michigan Dance Project, Michelle's Academy of Dance & Performing Arts Center, and the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts. For years, Michigan Dance Project had been running summer intensives, but Kathy saw a greater need for connection with the community which sparked the idea to partner with the BCPA. This created the opportunity to support the local performing arts venue while also facilitating a more professional and exciting week of dance for students across Michigan.
