About THE SOLO PROJECT brought to you by Purple & Gold Club This is not your "normal" choir concert. This show is a selected set of solo and small group acts developed by our students to showcase their musicianship. Do you like country-- ? it's on the concert. Do you like jazz---? Yep, it's on the concert. Do you like pop or classic rock--? You guessed it- it's on the concert. What about music theater? Yes-- that too!
Shows 2/28 7pm. 2/29 2pm and 7pm LSHS PAC
We have something every audience member will love to hear - done in a new and exciting way. Support music in our schools and see next year's America's Got Talent hopefuls before they hit that stage. We guarantee you an evening chock full of fun and at least one song that will have you humming on the way home.
Our shows are made possible by Purple and Gold- Lake Choir Boosters and we could not be more thankful for their help. Funds raised will be utilized to replace and upgrade our solo sound equipment. Cordless microphones, bluetooth capable soundboard and more. Help us make this show a true professional training ground.
MORE ABOUT THE CLASSROOM SIDE OF THE PROJECT Solo Project came about into my classroom about 15 years ago in a collaboration with Darcy Schmitt of Battle Ground High School. Darcy does a "In the Spotlight" concert/project with her students and I wanted to see if it could work in my program as well. It worked and I have taught this project almost every year of my teaching career to students from grades 7-12. The basis of the project is first: "the people who get the solos in choir/vocal music are the ones who get better singing solos." And second: shouldn't all our students learn not just their harmony part, but also how to sing with confidence their own music? The Solo Project allows for both things to happen. Every student gets a chance to choose, practice, clinic, prepare, audition, arrange, and ultimately perform a solo. From those prepared auditions, a slate of acts is chosen for this three show weekend. Then the students market, complete a stage design, sound engineer, emcee, and do all the jobs associated with getting a show from idea to stage. This project is a professional training module that supports students practice the art of collaboration in the workplace.
The ultimate goal being- every student gets better from going through the process of solo selection and preparation.
Thank you for your support of this extended learning opportunity and to all our LSHS Choir Students for their work to create this show. It is my favorite project all year- and I'm sure it's soon to be yours as well! Monika Tabor, Director of Choirs, Lake Stevens High School and Cavelero Mid High
