OhioMHAS Annual Forensic Conference
The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is pleased to sponsor the 2019 Annual Forensic Conference:
Balancing Risk and Recovery: Helping People Maintain Hope within the Forensic System
This one-day conference is designed for a broad range of professionals who work with people who have mental illness and are involved in the criminal justice system.
This year's conference will feature two keynote speakers: 1. Debra Pinals, MD, Director, Program in Psychiatry, Law and Ethics and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of Michigan Medical Director, Behavioral Health and Forensic Programs, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will speak on the topic of Recovery and Person-Centered Approaches for People with Intellectual Disabilities and Mental Illness: The Forensic Path Forward. 2. Susan Hatters Friedman, MD, The Phillip J. Resnick Professor of Forensic Psychiatry, Case Western Reserve University Associate Professor of Psychological Medicine, University of Auckland, New Zealand will speak on the topic of Recovery in Forensic Mental Health
The conference will offer a number of workshops including: -Legal Update with The Honorable Hollie Gallagher, Judge, Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas and The Honorable Stephen McIntosh, Administrative Judge, Franklin County Court of Common Pleas -Recovery Within A Mental Health Court with The Honorable Marianne Sezon, Judge, Ashtabula County Court of Common Pleas and The Honorable Joyce Kimbler, Judge, Medina County Court of Common Pleas -Journeys of Hope: Individual Perspectives -Reducing Violence Risk in the Hospital and Developmental Center with Susan Hatters Friedman, MD and Joy Stankowski, MD -Reducing Violence Risk in the Community with Susan Hatters Friedman, MD and Joy Stankowski, MD
Application for all relevant continuing education credits will be made prior to the conference and will include an application for professional ethics credits for those workshops that cover ethics or cultural-competency related topics.
Registration and badge pick-up will start at 8:00 a.m. and opening remarks will begin at 8:40 a.m. on October 25. The conference will end at 4:30 p.m.
The conference will be held in Dublin, Ohio at the Conference Center at Embassay Suites Dublin 5100 Upper Metro Place Dublin, OH 43017
Overnight accommodations are available at the Embassy Suites for a discounted group rate for both November 6th and November 7th at $134/night. Rooms must be reserved prior to October 16, 2019 to receive group rate, but could sell out quicker. We recommend reserving rooms as early as possible. The tuition cost of the conference is $155. Light breakfast and buffet lunch and refreshment breaks will be provided.
We will accept credit card payment, check, cash (at registration), and Purchase Orders (P.O.). We can send you an INVOICE if needed, but payment arrangements are required prior to the start of the conference. Please register online before October 30, 2019.
Your registration will include an email response that will prove that you are registered, but if you need another form of confirmation we can provide that as well if you contact us at EHarper@FESC-OH.org
A student rate of $50 (via credit card payment or through an invoice, etc.) is available for post-doctoral psychology or psychiatric residents and medical and graduate students in law, social work, counseling, and nursing. Proof of current student status will need to be submitted.
CANCELLATION POLICY Requests for cancellation received before 10 AM on October 30, 2019, will receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued after this date. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to a colleague by contacting the conference organizer at 513-869-4014.
CONFERENCE VIDEO/PHOTOGRAPHY CONSENT By registering for the conference, participants agree to allow images or voice recordings created through photography, videography or other electronic means in which they appear, to be edited, reproduced and distributed for unlimited use, in whole or in part, by the State of Ohio, OhioMHAS, at its sole discretion.
