Shibari 201: Strappados & Armbinders for Floorwork & Suspension
Ties with the arms bound together in a straight line behind the back are both beautiful and very restrictive. Come learn how to tie them with confidence!
In this three-hour workshop, we'll take a detailed look at Strappados & Armbinders for both floorwork & suspension, focusing on various arm positions, precise rope placement and tension, & several types of frictions. We'll also examine anatomy & safety issues associated with this tie, and learn tips & tricks for tying fluidly & with connection. Finally, we'll take a look at some of the possibilities around 'using up' the remaining rope in decorative ways (kazari).
NOTE: you are not required to do suspension to do this workshop! Students who are already doing suspension will be cleared by the instructor and invited to practice Partial & Full Suspension with these ties, if they wish to.
Prerequisite: You should come to this course with prior, solid familiarity in basic rope bondage skills, especially the single-column tie. It is definitely appropriate for all genders, sexual orientations, and body types!
To ensure personal attention to each participant, class size will be limited to 8 tying pairs. Due to the small class size, early registration is strongly recommended.
Clothing & Equipment: For floorwork, please bring 3-4 25'-30' pieces of bondage rope, 5-6mm in diameter, and a blanket or yoga mat to sit & tie on. You should wear clothing comfortable to tie in.
For Suspension (and you must be previously cleared by the instructor to do suspension in this workshop): 8-10 full length ropes + carabiners.
Hemp or Jute rope is recommended. Its also helpful to have some shorter lengths of rope in your kit. Short on rope? Well have a bit extra on hand to loan out to students.
All sexes, genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations and identifications are most welcome!
About the Instructor: Jonathan (Seattle Shibari) is Seattle-based rope artist who ties for photoshoots, performs onstage, and teaches Japanese-style rope bondage. He works to spread appreciation for this beautiful art via his website SeattleShibari.com, and travels regularly to Japan to train with top-level teachers. Jonathan has taught numerous sold-out workshops, and teaches and performs internationally.
No ticket refunds or credit will be given within 14 days of event.
