The Nutcracker Ballet
The story is a timeless family holiday classic of a little girl and her nutcracker doll. Featuring dancers from Reach Dance Academy.

The Nutcracker, a full length ballet and is sure to ignite holiday cheer through out the night. The Nutcracker Ballet is a two-act ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky based on E.T.A Hoffman's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King".

Choreography by Artistic Director Raquel Cordova

Act I

It's Christmas Eve, the Stahlbaum house is preparing for their annual holiday party. Clara and her little brother Fritz are excited and help with all the preparations along with the added teasing of the Maid. They are excited to see all their friends and especially their god father, Uncle Drosslemeyer, who usually brings many gifts.

The Party begins and the guests arrive. After all the dancing, Uncle Drosslemeyer presents The Nutcracker Toy to Clara and she is overjoyed. Fritz is a mischievous one and although he didn't mean to he snags the doll out of Clara's hands and breaks it. Uncle Drosselemeyer quickly reprimands Fritz and repairs The Nutcracker.

After the party, the guests leave and children go to bed. Clara creeps back into the living room to play with her beloved Nutcracker. As she falls asleep on the couch, Uncle Drosselemeyer casts a magical spell on her.

When the clock strikes midnight, mice start to come out. Many mice surrounding her wake her up. As she cries, Uncle Drosselemeyer appears, shews away the mice and takes her Nutcracker Doll. As the Tree begins to "grow" and the mice come out again, Clara slowly realizes that she is no longer human size. Uncle Drosslemeyer cast his most impressive spell yet, her toy doll comes to life  The Nutcracker. And he calls for his troupe of faithful soldiers to fight the Mice and Mouse Queen in battle. Combat continues and ensues with Clara defending her Nutcracker by hitting the Mouse Queen with a shoe and therefore giving the Nutcracker an opportunity to stab the Mouse Queen. The Nutcracker falls to the ground in pure exhaustion and Clara hides her face in her hands and cries from all the commotion. She is pleasantly surprised when a gentle hand touches her shoulderand sees her Nutcracker has turned into a Prince.

Clara and The Prince travel through the Snow where they meet dancing snowflakes, Snow Fairies and a Snow Queen. They dance amongst them as they continue their journey through the pine forest. Clara and the Nutcracker Prince is given a ride on a magical sleigh to their next destination.

Act II

Clara and the Prince arrive at the Kingdom of Sweets and are greeted by an Arc Angel. All the people of this land are thankful to Clara, for saving The Prince and perform many dances from several regions of the world.

A Spanish Dance, A Mirliton Dance (reed flutes), A Chinese Dance, an Arabian Dance, A Russian Dance, a Ginger-Snaps Dance, and a Waltz of the Flowers. The Sugar Plum Fairy performs the final Grand Pas Deux with her Cavalier. Everyone dances a final joyous waltz in all the celebration.

Finally the Prince brings the sleigh once again and asks Clara to join him on yet another journey. He brings her back to her living room, sits her down on the couch, and gives her a loving kiss on her forhead. As she falls back asleep, she jumps up again to tell her Prince one more thing and sees her Prince in her arms back in the form of a Nutcracker Doll.

Realizing it was only a dream, an amazing one at that. As she smiles and caringly places him back under the tree...but was it really just a dream?
