About Madison:
Through the efforts of Hunters Hope (a Jim and Jill Kelly Foundation) New York State now does newborn screening for Krabbe Disease. Sadly, Madison was born just prior to the screening. She is the last baby in New York that was undetected at birth, and is now living with this deadly disease. When she was four months old she went in for a minor operation, soon after she began regressing with her developmental milestones. It took doctors two months to diagnose her with Krabbe Disease. Madison was quickly taken to Duke University in hopes for a transplant. Unfortunately it was too late and the doctors told us she would not live past 13 months old. Thankfully, Madison has beaten the odds, she is now over three years old!
Madison has graduated from Daystar Academy and will be attending Mary Cariola Childrens Center this fall. She receives many therapies during the week along with acupuncture and massage treatments. She is a world traveler visiting places such as Virginia Beach, Florida, Pennsylvania, 1000 Islands and Hawaii. She enjoys coloring, painting, listening to stories, planting flowers and swimming. She loves the color purple and having her nails painted.
