Whether at work or at home, as mood lighting or general illumination, LED (light emitting diode) lighting is becoming routine among architects, designers, and scenographers. On opening night of Interaction of Color and Light, the second event in our ongoing series on light, Ralf Michel and Florian Bachmann from the Zurich ColourLight Center (CLC) at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in Switzerland, present two interactive installations, Color-Light-Patterns and Color-Light-Playground, that play with LED lighting and colored surfaces and provide insights into design potential based on their LED-ColourLab and ColourLightLab research projects.
The installations are on view at swissnex San Francisco through January 22, 2010.

About the Zurich ColourLight Center (CLC)
The Zurich ColourLight Center (CLC) designs and conducts research projects, performs services, plans and carries out events and exhibitions, and is involved in international conferences on the subject of color and light - focusing on the interactions between colored surfaces, space, and light.
The CLC also acts as an advisor and contact point for teaching projects, continuing education events, and workshops on color and light.
The center is part of the Institute for Design and Technology at the Zurich University of the Arts and cooperates with the school's Institute for Art Education. The CLC focuses on "research through design", an application-oriented approach exemplified by its latest project, the LED-ColourLab, which investigates interactions of dynamic light and surface color and develops prototypes and applications. CLC researchers typically work with collaborators across disciplines to generate new process and product innovations and further develop creative methods for teaching.
This event is produced by swissnex San Francisco and part of the U.S.-wide program ThinkSwiss-Brainstorm the Future. As a leading country in science, research and technology, Switzerland is working with its American counterparts to address key global topics such as sustainability, to better understand trends and arrive at solutions.
