The NoHo Ho Holiday Show Opening Gala
The Secret Rose Theatre & Nail Soup Productions in the NoHo Arts District of North Hollywood will present The NoHo-HO Holiday Show! in December 2009.  The evening will be hosted by 100.3 The Sound DJ Mimi Chen and will feature eight holiday themed shows (1 musical, 1 opera, 3 monologues, and 3 plays plus a musical finale).

Taking a contemporary approach to the holidays, Santas wife is at home baking and sharing intimate stories about a horny elf that had his eye on her as his newest conquer in Baking with Mrs. Claus Starring W.G. Hall (Written and directed by Jan M. Alejandro.  Wardrobe by Barb Rickard.  Stage Manager is Mallory Garrett).

In The Holiday Sketch, Tis the season to get entrepreneurial (By Michael Gordon Shapiro) is the only line needed to describe this holiday farce.  Starring Ian Federgreen.

This is followed by Buon Natale which followed the story of Gabriella (Mara New) who left Italy as a spinster after her cousin Donna stole her boyfriend.  Soon Gabriella learns that Holidays are times when people stay with family, as she is alone in her apartment and remembers the good times she had when she was in Italy.  Describing the events, the decorating of the tree and the enormous food preparations, she goes back in time through this reflective piece and discovers the importance of family and the true meaning of the Holidays.  Written by Jan Alejandro & Mara New.

The Gift of the Magi (libretto by Jan M. Alejandro and Jonathan Price, music by Jonathan Price, Story by O. Henry.  Musical Director Gordon Glor) Della sells her hair to buy a watch chain as a Christmas present for her husband Jim, who sells his watch to buy a comb for his wife.  This classic story of giving a part of yourself for the happiness of others is embedded in this mini-musical and the story by O. Henry, which reinstates the holiday spirit of giving and love.  O. Henry's classic tale of selflessness is given an operatic treatment by composer Jonathan Price and librettist Jan Michael Alejandro & Jonathan Price, performed by members, Diana Briscoe, Gabriel Manro, Christina Linton, and Bernard Bermudez of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Opera.

Ornament Exchange Starring Christopher Showerman and Cristina Jones (Directed by Jan Alejandro) in a place nestled deep in suburbia, where dawn is breaking over two fragile souls hanging from a Christmas tree.  A nave solider and a world weary angel manage to set aside their differences for the holiday and find solace in hanging around together in the quiet morning hours while Whisky, the cat, still sleeps.  Wardrobe by Barb Rickard.  Stage Manager is Mallory Garrett.

Taking place in Queens, NY 1942 Holiday Mitzvah (Directed by Jeffrey Pessero.  Books, Lyrics and Music by: Jan Michael Alejandro), follows Ruthie Bernstein (Lorraine Michaels) an elderly, tired, absent minded Jewish woman, who gets a visit from her deceased, Negro maid/friend, Angela (Charlo Crossley from the Broadway cast of Hairspray, The Color Purple and Hair).  It turns out that the Chanukah themed visit was only a dream and Esther (Esther Rosen); a neighbor helps to get Ruthie's spirits up.

Revenge of the Magi (By Jeff Goode, Directed by Donna Suppipat and Starring Julia Carpenter & Frank Ensenberger) follows spiteful newlyweds who discover it is the thought that counts, as they try to give it to each other at Christmas.  A twisted take on O. Henry's "Gift of the Magi" from the author of "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues.

Lastly, No Rest for Santa, concludes the show.  After a tough year, and a long night of delivering presents, Santa is finally home to chill, but is greeted with problems that needs immediate attention (Written by Jan M. Alejandro, Directed and Dramaturge Michael Rademaekers and starring Warren G. Hall).
