About the Presenters
Mike Janas, Gensler Mike Janas has more than 16 years of experience as a project architect on multiple building types. With his strong technical background and comprehensive experience with interiors, renovations and large-scale hospitality projects, Mike bridges the gap between technical and design roles. A strong communicator, Mike points to large scale resort projects such as Grand Hyatt Incheon in Korea and Westin DIA in Denver as the jobs that helped him recognize and hone his skill for managing relationships among clients, consultants, and contractors.
Recognized in the hospitality practice area as specialist in hotel planning and programming, Mike consults with project teams in other offices to bring his knowledge of brand and hotel operations to all of Gensler's hospitality projects.
As one of two Design Realization leaders for Gensler's Los Angeles office, and a Technical Director for the office, Mike ensures quality of project delivery, integration between technical, design, and management disciplines. He also works with BIM leaders to help make the Revit delivery platform efficient for project teams.
Mike travels internationally as much as he can, sampling cultures and broadening his horizons. He loves the architecture of London, the street life and public places of Rome and the culture of Latin America.
James Kelly James Kelly is a Project Architect, Senior Associate and Technical Director practicing with Gensler in Los Angeles, with over 17 years of experience on diverse project types, of all scales, across four continents. A native of South Africa, he currently specializes in the leadership of retail-driven mixed-use projects both in the US and internationally. His professional perspective is borne of a quintessentially 'generalist architect' background, and couples a deep passion for design with a strongly rational approach to technical problem-solving.
