RENT: The Musical
Based on Puccini's opera La Bohme, the musical centers on a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Alphabet City in the mid-1990s. The Royal Underground is thrilled to be presenting this landmark piece in our latest season. A modern classic of the American theatre, "Rent" features a compelling and socially relevant storyline, multi-ethnic cast, and high energy music. Jonathan Larson's "Rent" won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Musical, endures as one of the most beloved theatrical experiences of the 20th century, and has become the anthem of a generation of theater lovers. Directed by Jerianne Banson, this production is made possible through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Rent was originally produced by New York Theatre Workshop and on Broadway by Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCollum, Allan S. Gordon and New York Theatre Workshop.
