SMUHSD's ParenTeen Quest and the Burlingame School District Present: The Connected Adolescent: A Roadmap to Parenting in the Digital Age with Jason Brand
Technology is pervasive in the lives of students and families. It is here to stay and it is going to play a central role in our children's futures. This discussion with Jason Brand is an opportunity to:
- Understand the powerful draw of new media/technology during childhood and adolescence.
- Learn how to tap into your child's enthusiasm while remaining in your role as parent.
- Review current research about technology and brain development.
- Figure out how much time is the "right" amount of time for your child to spend in front of a screen.
- Address physical health concerns and solutions.
- Help your adolescent build a sense of good judgment when it comes to online manners and ethics.
- Learn how to support your child in knowing what to do when inappropriate online activity comes their way.
Jason Brand, a licensed clinical social worker and Bay Area psychotherapist, provides support to families in a rapidly changing world where digital technologies are transforming our lives. His work takes place in schools and with organizations, and in his office where, as a psychotherapist, he sees families with children and adolescents.
Parents are asked to attend without their children. This will provide a forum where parents can freely ask specific questions regarding their kids behaviors.
Please note:
- Spanish translation will be available. - No food or drink allowed in the theater.
