"I Hate Hamlet"
Originally written and produced in 1991, "I Hate Hamlet" by Paul Rudnick is described as a dramatic comedy. This Evergreen Playhouse production is setting out to change that description from a "dramatic comedy" to an all out "laugh riot"!
Rudnick's play, directed by Eric Mark, tells the amusing story of a successful young actor's (Andrew Rally) dilemma. He has recently re-located to New York after his TV series is cancelled and he has to decide whether he is up to playing the dreaded role of Hamlet in the park. One problem. He hates Hamlet.
The situation is complicated by several glitches, including the fact that he is being haunted by the ghost of the famed, though "slightly" intoxicated, Shakespearean actor John Barrymore. Rally wrestles with his decision just as a friend from LA appears with the possibility of a TV deal worth millions. Throw into the mix his girlfriend who is fervently holding on to her virginity, a real estate agent with "connections" to the outer world and a German talent agent who appears to be "losing the war" (you have to choose which one) and you've set the stage for a very entertaining night of laughter.
