One Renaissance mass setting stands head and shoulders above all others, and that is William Byrd's passionate and masterful setting for four voices, affectionately referred to by singers as "Byrd 4." John White's "Canonical Hours," given its world premiere by St. Martin's Chamber Choir in 2005 and recorded on our CD "Monastic Echoes," pairs naturally with Byrd 4 to provide an evening of unmatched musical expressiveness and mysticism.
