The Battle of Calder Street
Govanhill Theatre Group's loatest production is a piece of verbatim theatre focused on the campaign to save Govanhill Baths and the occupation of the building by the community in 2001 - which turned out to be the longest continuous occupation of a civic building in British history.
The play is constructed largely from interviews of people involved in the campaign and occupation but also draws on news and television reports which were broadcast around the world.
The story is one of drama, passion betrayal and ultimately hope and demonstrates what can happen when a community comes together.
