Philly Food System Tour

***Philadelphia Food System Projects Tour*** Organized by the APHA Food and Environment Working Group-a multi-disciplinary group working across APHA sections, to protect public health by promoting and cultivating a safe, healthy, just and sustainable food system.
Saturday, November 7th, 11am-4:30pm
Cost: $35 Local sustainable lunch provided!
The tour will depart from the Convention Center and will include the following stops:
*Greensgrow Farm-an urban farm and nursery on the site of a former brownfield; http://greensgrow.org/
*The Urban Nutrition Initiative-a youth program focused on urban gardening, economic development and healthy eating; http://www.urbannutrition.org/ *Clark Park Farmers Market-a great example of the excellent farmers markets throughout the city; http://www.ucityphila.org/ucd_programs/marketing/clark_park_farmers_market
*A Healthy Corner Store site-the owner of this store not only provides fresh and healthy snacks, he's started a small business providing these prepared snacks to other stores in the city; http://thefoodtrust.org
*Weaver's Way Farm and Coop-Weaver's Way has a co-op store, an urban farm and runs several programs including one in partnership with the Philadelphia Horticultural Society and the prison system, and another with a local family shelter; http://www.weaversway.coop/ *Fair Food Farm Stand-located at the Reading Terminal Market and featuring sustainably produced, local food; http://www.fairfoodphilly.org/
Along the bus ride to some of the sites, we will be joined by a representative from the Mayor's Office to speak with us about Philadelphia's sustainability initiatives. We will also learn about the Fresh Food Financing Initiative which brings grocery stores into food deserts.
