Edward Albee's AT HOME AT THE ZOO
Edward Albee's At Home at the Zoo, in a production directed by Steve Scott, begins previews on Friday, September 19, 2014, and opens for the press on Tuesday, September 23.  It is the first production of City Lit's thirty-fifth season.  The play is Albee's expanded version of his 1959 one-act The Zoo Story.  In 2004 Albee wrote a first act for it, subtitled Homelife, in which we witness Peter's conversation with his wife Ann shortly before he leaves to read in the park where, in what is now Act Two, he will have his fateful encounter with Jerry.  At Home at the Zoo will run through Sunday, October 26.

Steve Scott is the Producer of Goodman Theatre, where he has overseen more than 200 productions; he is also a member of Goodman's Artistic Collective.  At Goodman he has directed Horton Foote's Blind Date, David Lindsay-Abaire's Rabbit Hole, David Mamet's one-acts Binky Rudich and the Two-Speed Clock and No One Will Be Immune, several editions of A Christmas Carol, and the world premiere of Tom Mula's Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, among many productions.  At City Lit in 1997, he directed Mark Richard's world premiere adaptation of Donald Barthelme's The King.  He is an Eclipse Theatre ensemble member, where he has directed Alan Ayckbourn's Woman in Mind, Arthur Miller's After the Fall,  John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation,  Keith Reddin's Big Time, Neil Simon's Plaza Suite and Lanford Wilson's The Moonshot Tapes.   He has also directed at Silk Road Rising, American Blues Theatre, A Red Orchid Theatre, Redtwist Theatre, Northlight Theatre, Shattered Globe Theatre, Next Theatre, St. Lawrence (Ontario) Shakespeare Festival, Porchlight Theatre, Theatre Wit, Buffalo Theatre, National Jewish Theatre, Theatre at the Center, Lifeline Theatre, Organic Touchstone Theatre and Lyric Opera Center for American Artists.  He is a faculty member at Roosevelt University's College of Performing Arts.

The cast for At Home at the Zoo is Elaine Carlson (Ann), Mike Cherry (Jerry), and Ted Hoerl (Peter).The design team is Devin Carroll (lighting), kClare Kemock (costumes), and Dustin Pettegrew (set).

Ticket prices are $22.00 for previews and $29.00 after opening. A limited number of $25.00 general admission tickets ($18.00 for previews) are available for each performance through the City Lit website.

Discounts are available for telephone orders by seniors, students, members of the military, and groups of ten or more. Tickets can be reserved by going to www.citylit.org or by calling (773) 293-3682.

City Lit specializes in literate theatre, including stage adaptations of literary material. It is located in the historic Edgewater Presbyterian Church building at 1020 West Bryn Mawr Avenue, one block west of Sheridan Road and a block and a half east of the Bryn Mawr Red Line L stop. The 84 Peterson bus, the 147 Lake Shore Express bus, and the 151 Sheridan bus all stop near City Lit. Valet parking is available for theatre customers at Francesca's Bryn Mawr restaurant across the street from City Lit. Discounted parking is available for theatre customers, with validation from the Edgewater Beach Café, in the Edgewater Beach Apartments' underground parking lot one block east of the theatre.  A limited amount of free parking is available for theatre customers who dine at That Little Mexican Café one block west of the theatre.
