There are thousands of different types of apples and the most popular apples that you find in your local shops aren't always the easiest to grow due to common disease problems. But dozens of newly-developed and little-known apple varieties are both delicious and disease-resistant. Join Slow Food Toronto on September 18, 2014 for a book launch and exotic apple tasting!

Susan Poizner of Orchard People Fruit Tree Education and Consulting will be there with her award-winning new book "Growing Urban Orchards" and she's bringing along some fantastic disease-resistant apples for you to taste like Pristine, Redfree, Jalander and Janeena. You'll also be able to meet organic fruit tree growers Gaye Trombley (Avalon Orchards), Eric  Hambley (Siloam Orchards) and Ken Roth (Silver Creek Nurseries).

We'll be hosted by the sustainable chocolate company ChocoSol who will offer tastings of their "Forest Garden" Chocolate Bars featuring Ontario's disease-resistant apples. And Dawn Woodward of Evelyn's Crackers will bake a huge "Exotic Apple Crumble" for all to share. But there's limited space to register for the event early. The suggested donation of $5.00 per person will go to Slow Food Toronto. Mark your calendars and we'll see you then!
