COTE Presents: Malibu Lagoon Restoration Project Tour

It's summer and Friday afternoons don't have to be spent in front of the computer! Join the AIA|LA Committee on the Environment and noted Architect and conservation expert Clark Stevens as we tour the remarkable re-engineering and re-naturing of Malibu Lagoon.

In 2013, the California Parks Association in concert with a coalition of local conservation groups completed construction of the Malibu Lagoon Restoration Project. From a pre-construction condition in which the lagoon's natural tidal flows were obstructed by debris and trash, the project re-engineered the site's hydrology, improving oxygen conditions in the water and restoring habitat for native plants and animals while also improving the site for surfing and recreation at the nearby and iconic Surfrider Beach.

About the Speaker:
Clark P. Stevens, Architect, is Executive Officer of the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, and President of New West Land Company of Topanga, California. Clark's practice and writing focuses on conservation-based design and development. He has designed buildings in four nations, and developed conservation-based land plans for over two hundred square miles of Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, California and the Hawaiian Islands. He is teacher, speaker, and author on conservation-based land planning and architecture
