BarnArts Summer Youth Theatre Institute 2014 To Stage Roald Dahl's WILLY WONKA, JR. At Barnard Town Hall
BARNARD, VT -- BarnArts Summer Youth Theatre Institute 2014 is staging Willy Wonka, Jr, a youth version of the 1971 film, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, August 8-10 at Barnard Town Hall. Evening shows are Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM, and matinees are Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for ages 17 and under. For ticketing information please call 802-332-6020 or visit www.barnarts.org.
The story is based on the 1964 book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, which depicts the life of the eccentric Willy Wonka, a famed chocolatier who creates an elaborate plot in order to leave his factory to a good hearted child. Only five short years after the book hit the shelves, it was adapted into a screenplay and the classic Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory was born. The Junior version includes the same, lively characters but with more songs to inspire a musical ambience and theatrical twist. The themes include optimism, the importance of gracious behavior, honesty, and class consciousness/conflict.
In the cast in order of appearance are Nate Hinson as Willy Wonka/Candy Man, TOJ Marceau as Charlie Bucket, Emma McLiverty as Mrs. Bucket, JAMR Marceau as Mr. Bucket, Marlena Farinas as Grandma Josephina, Ryleigh Johnson as Grandma Georgina, Django Farinas as Grandpa George, Allister Wigglesworth as Grandpa Joe, Zeno Minotti as James, Sola Minotti as Matilda, Jaclyn Hazen as Phineous Trout, Stephen Scherer as Augustus Gloop, Amber Gleason as Veruca Salt, Ben Stroud as Mr. Salt, Amelia Killackey as Violet Beauregard, Skylar Haley as Mrs. Beauregard, Hannah Reed as Michaela Teavee, and Hannah Milstone as Ms. Teavee.
The show is directed by Tom Beck, Associate Director Jarvis Green, Producing Director Jeff Levison, Musical Director Kathi Tarrant, Choreographer Cora Swanberg Costume & Scenic Design, Murray Ngoima, and Stage Manager Kendall Theroux.
Last summer the institute staged Grease! to a packed house.
