Seeing Red
Jim Stark stars as artist Emile Bernard, a friend and protege of Vincent van Gogh's, in this new play by David J. Loehr, presented by the Riverrun Theatre Company.

Bernard looks back at his life, specifically his friendship and correspondence with van Gogh.  Because Bernard was also a writer and artist, Vincent felt free to describe his vision and his work in greater detail than with others, even his brother Theo.  As a result, we get a different look at Vincent, a glimpse behind the eyes that first saw the Starry Night...

As Bernard recounts their relationship to a student and protege of his own, he reflects on change, growth, faith and beauty, all while looking down the many roads not taken.

This script was originally commissioned by Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia, where it premiered in February 2009.
