The Sixth Annual Students Actively Changing Society (SACS) Conference
A national Campus Compact survey recently found that roughly a third (31%) of American college and university students volunteer in their communities. In our state, however, that number is only 17%--less than 1 in 5 Oregon students serve their communities!
Oregon Campus Compact and the ORCC Student Advisory Board would like to change that.
To increase the number of Oregon students involved in their communities, we are hosting a conference that will bring together student leaders from across the state in order share ideas and learn new skills. Participants will leave with the tools they need to maximize the impact of their efforts and increase the number of their peers who engage in service in their communities.
The conference will feature intense skill building workshops in these four key areas: student/volunteer recruitment, publicity and communications, fundraising, and designing and leading reflection activities.
All Oregon students seeking to improve their campus and their communities through service are invited to attend.
This event will be of particular interested to Alternative Spring Break Leaders, Days of Service Coordinators, Service and Advocacy Club Members, Greek Life Leaders and Philanthropy Chairs, and Student Government Officers.
The registration fee is $75 per participant. This fee will cover all conference sessions, lodging for the night of Saturday, November 14, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday, November 15. The conference will be held at Aldersgate Conference Center in Turner, Oregon (10 mi. SE of Salem). Please note that in order to make this event as eco-friendly as possible, participants will need to bring their own bedding, pillows and towels. Mattresses will be provided by Aldersgate.
