Paolo Sambrano "Bi-Poseur Part 2"
Janine Brito "Where the Sidewalk Curves"
Mark Kenward "Great Attempts on Nantucket"

San Francisco is justifiably celebrated as the nation's solo performance capital. A steady stream (or more recently, a surging river) of dedicated writer/performers, highly-skilled teachers, award-winning directors, and adventurous producers have emerged and are crafting provocative, passionate stories refracted through deeply personal sensibilities. These shows are ideally suited for adventurous audiences who like to be challenged and are in the mood to laugh. It's important that they like to laugh because these shows are often very funny. To showcase this abundance of riches, StageWerx and Solo Performance Workshop have joined together to establish SOLO SUNDAYS: a monthly series committed to presenting the very best up and coming solo performers as well as seasoned pros.

W. Kamau Bell is the co-founder and director of Solo Performance Workshop. You may be familiar with his name. His solo show, THE W. KAMAU BELL CURVE  was a critical and popular success this past year in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, at the Comedy Central Stage in LA and recently at the New York Fringe Festival. Not only was he honored by the SF Weekly as the 2008 Comedian of the Year but he was recently the subject of one of their cover story. Solo Sundays is being programmed by Bruce Pachtman, the co-founder of the Solo Performance Workshop as well as the man who wrote and performed the solo show DON'T MAKE ME LOOK TOO PSYCHOTIC, which ran for a total of 100 weeks. The series is being presented at StageWerx Theatre, the subterranean 50 seat venue near Union Square that is perfectly proportioned for solo performance. StageWerx is directed by Ty and Cory McKenzie, theater iconoclasts  with a history of bringing to the stage everything from rock operas to scary movies to circus acts.
