Become a Ghost Hunter with Jonathan Stroud (PLEASE NOTE NEW VENUE)

Know your poltergeist from your phantasm? Want to learn how to contain ectoplasm and when you should use a salt bomb or a magnesium flare? Learn how to be a ghost hunter with award-winning author Jonathan Stroud in this event based on his thrilling Lockwood & Co series, including The Screaming Staircase and the brand new book The Whispering Skull. Jonathan will tell you all about the different types of ghosts haunting Lockwood's London, what tools you need to fight them and even give you the chance to dress up like a ghost hunter! Writings tips, madcap drawing, readings and laughs along the way. This exciting event is aimed at potential ghost hunters aged 9 and upwards (including parents!).

Jonathan Stroud is the author of the New York Times bestselling Bartimaeus sequence, as well as several stand-alone novels and his much anticipated new series, Lockwood & Co. The multi-million selling Bartimaeus sequence is an international best seller and is currently published in 37 countries. Movie rights to the Bartimaeus series were sold to Miramax in 2002 in a hotly contested Hollywood auction. There is also a graphic novel of THE AMULET OF SAMARKAND (2010).

The first novel in Stroud's new series published globally in 2013  LOCKWOOD & CO.: THE SCREAMING STAIRCASE. It has been shortlisted for the LA Times book award, the Northern Ireland book award, the Booktrust Best Book Award, The LA Times Book Award and longlisted for the Carnegie Medal.

Stroud lives in Hertfordshire, UK, with his wife and two children.

The event is 1 hour and all children must be accompanied by a fee paying adult.  Unaccompanied children will not be admitted.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE VENUE FOR THIS EVENT IS DIFFERENT TO THAT TO LISTED IN OUR PROGRAMME - This event will now take place at The Clarion Hotel on Holywell Hill and not at the Maltings Arts Theatre as previously advertised. This is a decision taken by the Literary Festival in order to allow for a more intimate atmosphere for the smaller audience we are now expecting.
