DAFNIS PRIETO CD RELEASE CONCERT
Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, (formerly known as Casa de La Cultura/Center for Latino Arts) announces an exclusive Boston premiere of internationally acclaimed Cuban master percussionist, composer and arranger DAFNIS PRIETO. As part of our celebrated Latino performance series, we will present Prieto and his Si o Si Quartet in the official Boston CD Release Concert of Live at Jazz Standard, Prietos latest CD.

DAFNIS PRIETOs arrival in the U.S. has been compared to that of an asteroid hitting New York.  Prieto's revolutionary drumming techniques had a powerful impact on both the Latin and jazz music scene in the U.S. and internationally.  He has performed at many national and international music festivals with Jazz luminaries, such as: Eddie Palmieri, Chico and Arturo O'Farrill, Dave Samuels, Michel Camilo, Chucho Valdez, Roy Hargrove and Don Byron.  As a leader, he has three acclaimed recordings About the Monks, Absolute Quintet (both on Zoho Music), and the sextet album Taking the Soul for a Walk, released in May 2008 on his own label, Dafnison Music. Backed by a stellar cast of NY-based musicians, including: pianist Manuel Valera; saxophonist Peter Apfelbaum and bassist Charles Flores; his latest album comes on the heels of numerous awards, commissions and fellowships that have many calling him an emerging icon in the Latin and Jazz worlds. The Jazz Journalists Association named Prieto its Up & Coming Musician of the Year in 2006. He garnered a Grammy Award nomination for Absolute Quintet as Best Latin Jazz Album and earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2007.  Additional honors have come from Chamber Music America, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Meet the Composer. A faculty member of New York University since 2005; Dafnis Prieto travels internationally to offer master classes, clinics and workshops. As a celebrated composer, he has created music for dance, film, chamber ensembles.
