A One-Day Book-Making Workshop with Laurel Lee: Artistic Creations in Women-Centered Sexual Exploration
For women, especially lesbians, and female-identified people; no art-making background is necessary to enjoy this class.

Saturday 10/17 10 am-5 pm

An engaging day of personal sexual exploration in a class organized around sexuality and its representation in: Visual arts (art texts will be used to create a kind of visual lecture of representations of sexuality in the arts- participants will respond in drawing exercise), Medical visual documentation (medical illustrations will serve as inspiration of drawing, collage exercise), Self visual record (a lot of freedom will be allowed in this self-statement, there will be visual stimulations before the exercise begins), Other visual record (this will be a time to explore our community and its sexual diversity as personified in the arts again much freedom will be given in the participants creative response.)

Each participant will leave with a fine art book of sexual introspection and exploration. Class members may use drawing, collage, journaling, and other media to make their own unique book creation; the group will have structured discussions and exercises, as well as less structured work time.

the instructor: Laurel Lee is a artist who has never shied away from sexuality in her art. She has been represented in exhibits dealing with Eroticism and also exhibits fighting gender violence. She is an acomplished figure artist that often incorporated feminist reaction of human mythology in her depictions of honored stories. In her travels and studies of the last 20 years she has always created art books a kind of artistic reaction to environments. She is excited to offer a structured class where a group will collectively create around the topic of sexuallity. Laurel's work preceedes her recent move to the Bay Area. She was featured in  "Womensart.com exhibit" 2008, and "Intersections; Locating acts of Courage" 2006, both in Oakland. This last year she was included in Triangles a lesbian and bisexual art exhibit at the Womens Cancer Resource Center in Oakland.
