DIVINE WORDS
A resourceful, seductive young woman becomes the reluctant guardian of a hideously deformed dwarf and confronts the frightening price of survival in this dark, savage comic nightmare of human avarice and greed. This is an intensely theatrical fable of life in a primitive, rural town ruled by the amoral superstitions, ignorance and animal appetites of its pagan roots, gripped only by a catholic fear of the Church and the divine words of a savior they can never hope understand. Little known in America, Valle-Inclan is one of the most boldly original and influential anti-naturalistic playwrights of the early twentieth century, inspiring the work of future luminaries such as Lorca, Genet and Brecht. Temple Theaters provocative new production promises to be a major theatrical event not to be missed!
based on "Divinas palabras" by Ramon del Valle-Inclan adaptation by Robert Smythe directed by Felipe Vergara
