SOCK HOP - A Monthly Sock Hop Night at Queen Bee's
Join us on Thursday July 31st for the second in a series of awesome Sock Hop Events!

7:00-8:00 - it's MADISON time - lesson with Joel Plys
8:00-11:00 - Dance with DJ Mike Zuccaro

=============================

The term sock hop came about because dancers were required to remove their hard-soled shoes to protect the varnished floor of the gymnasium. These hops were a cultural feature of the 1950s and early rock and roll.

The music was usually records, sometimes presented by a disc jockey, in this case D.J. Mike Zuccaro! Mike has a local radio show every Saturday on KCBQ! This event is helping to raise the funds to keep the Radio Show Alive!

=============================

Flash Mobs are becoming more & more popular - would you like to learn one of the oldest flash mobs around?

In the 1950s, DJs would call out moves and the crowds went wild over all moving together. One of the most popular old skool 'flash mobs' was THE MADISON.

Based on a six count chorus step, The Madison contains several dance sequences which make playful references to 1950s and 1960s Television shows (e.g. The Rifleman), sports stars (e.g. Wilt Chamberlain), and performers (e.g. Jackie Gleason).

It is danced to the Ray Bryant tune, THE MADISON TIME, with calls for the particular dance sequences provided by Eddie Morrison. Eddie was a Baltimore disc jockey who started calling the steps live on the air. In Baltimore, the Madison was done to generic music with the DJ calling the figures.

You can learn THE MADISON easily at our SOCK HOP on July 31..." - Joel Plys of Swing Dancing in San Diego - will be here to teach it to you! For details and Joel & Swing Dancing in San Diego, see www.SwingDancingSanDiego.com

=========================
