South Dakota Festival of Books - Literary Feast: Rapture & Ruin
Rapture and Ruin, the 2009 Literary Feast, is hosted by Rick Bass, with special guests Charles Bowden, Ron Carlson, Ann Daum, Linda Hasselstrom, Susan Power, and Dan O'Brien.
The evening will feature several authors giving their thoughts on certain themes presented in Dan O'Brien's 2001 memoir, Buffalo for the Broken Heart. O'Brien's book tells the story of why he converted his Black Hills cattle ranch into one that farms bison. The story covers many key touchstones of the American West--the unique landscape and ecology, the false promise of homesteading, the history of the bison, and the Native American perspective on the land and its creatures.
The discussion will be complemented by a three-course meal provided by the Deadwood Thymes. A bison roast will be served as the main course for the dinner.
(*Please note: Pete Dexter has cancelled his appearance at the Festival of Books and will no longer present at this event.*)
