EARLY HARVEST:Celebrating Five Years of Movement for the Urban Village Dance Company
"The connection and intimacy between performers clearly extended off the stage and into the crowd..." Attitude: the Dancers' Magazine.
Since 2004 Shalewa Mackall and Movement for the Urban Village Dance Company have been presenting original contemporary dances rooted in the traditions and rhythms of all corners of the African Diaspora and infused with the immediacy of contemporary performance.
WHAT IS EARLY HARVEST?
It is a party - the marquis stop on Shalewa's Birthday Tour with music by some of New York Citys finest DJs, including Herb Martin! In addition to a toast and birthday cupcakes, VIP guests will enjoy a delicious buffet.
It is a performance featuring favorite work from MUVs repertory as well as a sneak peek of new work that we are preparing for our upcoming 2010 season Ascendance in Bloom.
It is an opportunity for the community that has helped to shape the Urban Village to gather and celebrate an important milestone- five consecutive years of MUV produced events in Brooklyn- and to contribute to our continued growth and creative progress as we undertake the creation of new work expanding on the themes of Ascendance, extending our creative collaboration with composer Dunia Best-Sinnreich and commissioning a new work by chorographer, Aqila Norris.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? Please purchase your tickets today!
If you cannot make the party but still want to support our efforts to continue creating new works that reflect the richness and beauty of the African Diaspora and celebrate the trials and the triumphs of contemporary urban life please check out our website at www.muvdancecompany.org.
