DIF Workshop - Be Here Now, Tara DeFrancisco (HQ)
Comedy is more than a good time, it's also a coping device. Maybe you've explored why you chose this coping mechanism of making people laugh, but now it is time to dare those things that block you to get completely out of the way. Scenically, we will say what needs to be said as the people you play, stay present, and let the comedy come from the audacity to speak the truth; We will adjust for simplicity,and let the complexity be shown in your acting, not your dialogue.
Part a trust-builder, part hardcore scenework with side coaching, and part unrelenting straight talk, with playful & therapeutic style.
Tara is a headlining performer at iO Chicago (The Improvised Musical the Deltones, Chaos Theory, Armando, defrancisCo), ComedySportz (Mainstage), and a vet of the Second City Touring Company. She has taught for all three theatres, and travels internationally to run immersions all over the world. She can be seen in the Las Vegas commercial campaign, on Delusions of Grandeur (ABC Family/Blip TV), and in the new feature film The Life & Death of an Unhappily Married Man. She is also the founder and president of The Improv Retreat, the acclaimed and beloved summer retreat for adult improvisers in the midwest.
