Sylvia Boorstein and Sharon Salzberg invite joy to the world during the holiday season.  

FRIDAY,DECEMBER 12, 7:30 pm:
PEACE and JOY: WHEN IF NOT NOW? : An evening of Dharma talk and meditation for cultivating kindness and inner contentment.  

PEACE and JOY: WHEN IF NOT NOW? A Quiet Day to nurture peace and good will toward oneself and others, independent of outer circumstance.    

These renowned teachers and authors bring over four decades of teaching and meditation experience to nurture our capacity for joy, calm and ease throughout the holiday season.  Their engaging sessions combine talks, meditation practice, humor and Q&A.  

Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church will host the event as an Advent Retreat Weekend in collaboration with BuddhaFest and Grace Productions.  Participants may purchase tickets online for an individual event (Friday night or all-day Saturday) or as two-day passes.  

    Sylvia Boorstein is a co-founding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, CA, and a Senior Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA. A practicing psychotherapist since 1967, she holds a Ph.D. in psychology.  Sylvia lectures nationally on meditation, mindfulness and how to make daily life a meditative practice, whether driving, standing in a checkout line or sitting on a meditation cushion.  
    Her numerous books including Happiness is an Inside Job: Practicing for a Joyful Life; Pay Attention, For Goodness' Sake: The Buddhist Path of Kindness; It's Easier Than You Think: The Buddhist Way to Happiness; Don't Just Do Something, Sit There, and That's Funny, You Don't Look Buddhist: On Being a Faithful Jew and a Passionate Buddhist.

    Sharon Salzberg is co-founder of  the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) and the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies in Barre, MA. The ancient Buddhist practices of vipassana (mindfulness) and metta (loving kindness) are the foundations of her work. Her experience includes collaboration with neuroscientists and researchers studying the brain and with professionals who deal with trauma.  
    Her many books include her New York Times Best Seller, Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation: A 28-Day Program;  Happiness at Work; The Force of Kindness; Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience; Loving Kindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness; A Heart as Wide as the World;  The Kindness Handbook: a Practical Companion and her soon-to-be published Real Happiness at Work.
