Cookbook BBQ with The Meat Hook and 4505 Meats
Butchers Tom Mylan (The Meat Hook) and Ryan Farr (4505 Meats) are celebrating their brand-new cookbooks with a BBQ party in San Francisco. These two butchers have ushered in a new wave of American meat eating on opposite coasts, both championing flavorful, sustainable, and humanely-raised meat. With The Meat Hook Meat Book (Artisan, 2014), Tom shares his butcher know-how for getting the most out of every cut, and in Sausage Making (Chronicle, 2014), Ryan's second cookbook, he offers a comprehensive manual to one of the most satisfying culinary crafts.

Hosted by Bloodhound bar and with cocktails from Suerte handcrafted premium tequila, Tom and Ryan will celebrating their books, serve big plates of BBQ, and lead a live butchery demo.  Tickets include a plate of BBQ from 4505 Meats, a Suerte tequila cocktail, and a copy of either The Meat Hook Meat Book or Ryan Farr's Sausage Making cookbook.  Additional copies of both cookbooks will be for sale, thanks to Omnivore Books.

About Tom Mylan:  Tom is the executive chef and co-owner of The Meat Hook. Opened in 2009, The Meat Hook is a local, sustainable butcher shop housed in the popular Brooklyn Kitchen, the largest cooking school for home cooks in New York City. A leading force in the national obsession with meat, butchers, and butchering, Tom has contributed recipes and stories to Food & Wine, Gilt Taste, and Gourmet and has appeared on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. Chow.com called him one of the 13 most important people in food in 2010, and New York magazine honored him as one of the "Curators of New Brooklyn." He met his wife, Annaliese Griffin, when they both worked at Murray's Cheese. Mylan is the author of The Meat Hook Meat Book, which Bon App├ętit has called, "A butchery book you'll actually use."

About 4505 Meats: Founded in 2009 by chef Ryan Farr and his wife, Cesalee, the company is one San Francisco's most beloved artisanal butchers, dedicated to flavor and quality, and with a strong commitment to supporting the Bay Area community and food movement. 4505 Meats quickly became a beloved staple at the Ferry Building Farmer's Market, and Ryan and Cesalee opened the 4505 Butcher Shop in San Francisco's Mission District in 2012, using whole animals from local farms and ranches, and grinding and cutting meat to order. 4505 Burgers & BBQ, their first restaurant, opened in May 2014.
