David Basse in Concert with Joe Cartwright
David Basse, renowned jazz vocalist who has been at the forefront of the Kansas City jazz scene for 20 years, will perform Sunday, July 6th, at Pilgrim Chapel in Kansas City. Basse is a recipient of the 2014 Heritage Series Musician Award, which recognizes outstanding area musicians or musical groups whose body of work represents a major contribution to Kansas City's musical heritage. Past Heritage Series Musician award winners include Luqman Hamza, legendary jazz musician; Danny Cox, KC's Blues icon; and the Wild Women, a popular jazz ensemble. The live, Heritage Series performance by Basse will be recorded on CD. The intent of all Heritage Series recordings is to preserve for posterity the live performance of a distinguished area musician in the acoustically perfect environment of Pilgrim Chapel, which due to its unique design, makes the sound of music sung or played there extraordinary.
Although Basse began his professional career as a teen in Nebraska, the 59-year-old jazz crooner has been living and performing in Kansas City most of his adult life. He has a well-earned reputation for pleasing club and concert audiences with his mellow, Kansas City-style jazz and blues vocals. Basse helped develop and continues to produce and perform on "12th Street Jump," a weekly syndicated radio show celebrating jazz on KCUR and more than 100 other radio stations. Basse will be accompanied at the July Heritage Series Concert by pianist Joe Cartwright.
