The Rememberer tells the true story Joyce Simmons Cheeka - a member of the Squaxin tribe in the southern Puget Sound. Beginning in 1911, The Rememberer documents one year in Joyces life as she forcibly taken from her home and placed in a government-run school. As the chosen "rememberer" for her tribe it is Joyce's duty to pass on the stories, history and wisdom of her people. However, the aims of the boarding school are quite different. This is the story of one woman's journey through two worlds and the way she learns to weave them together.
Join us as we explore this important, and often overlooked, chapter of our history.
