Teatro Espejo presents it's second annual One Act Festival offering two great plays, performing at Wilkerson stage at California Stage complex on 25th and R Streets. Advance tickets: $13.00 by 6/30/14. General admission: $15.00.

Las Nuevas Tamaleras is written by San Antonio playwright Alicia Mena and directed by Loretta Redoble-Arroyo. The bilingual play captures three contemporary Latinas in an uproariously comical attempt at making tamales for the first time. Things become even more entertaining when the spirits of two seasoned tamaleras, Dona Juanita and Dona Mercedes, appear to help the novices make the perfect tamal. However, the humor builds when neither of the two spirits can be seen or heard. Performed to sold-out audiences for the past ten years in San Antonio and Los Angeles, this play promises you a night filled with humor and memories! Show Dates: 7/11,7/13, 7/17, 7/18, 7/19 & 7/20.

Written and directed by Nicole C. Limon, BeYou(-tiful) follows the journeys of 8 female characters, from a 14 year old Chicana who is in the midst of a teenage identity crisis, to an ageless wise woman who urges women to be themselves because "there are already enough somebody else's." An homage to women of all shapes, sizes, colors, ages, and backgrounds, BeYOU(-tiful) honors the sometimes painful, always rewarding, path to self discovery and aims to encourage women to be themselves and celebrate their uniqueness. The play weaves traditional Mexican and Indigenous songs, chants, and dance in a magical setting "where dream meets reality." Show Dates: 7/10, 7/12, 7/24, 7/25, 7/26, & 7/27.
