Season (3-Concert) Subscription - Avalon String Quartet in Chicago

*September 18, 2009 - The ASQ will be joined by Rachel Barton Pine (violin) and William Koehler (piano) for a program to include Claude Debussys energetic and sharply rhythmic String Quartet in G Minor op. 10; Ernest Chaussons warmly melodic Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet op. 21; and Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet op. 18 no.6 in B-flat Major.
*February 10, 2010 - The ASQ will be joined by Yehuda Hanani (cello) for a program that celebrates the Russian influence in classical music, including Anton Arenskys String Quartet No. 2 in A Minor op. 35 for Viola, Violin and Two Celli, with its rich and memorable melodies; Ludwig van Beethovens String Quartet op. 59, no. 2 Rasumovsky, which was written for a Russian count and incorporates Russian folk melodies; and Sergei Prokofievs String Quartet No. 2 in F Major op. 92, a unique blend of folk music and classical form.
*April 4, 2010 - The ASQ will be joined by Anthony McGill (clarinet) in a program that includes a new composition by Harold Meltzer (winner of the 2008 Barlow Prize in String Quartet Composition), Johannes Brahms' Clarinet Quintet in B op. 115, an evocative work full of yearning and wistfulness, ripe with structural rigor; and Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet op. 127, no. 12 in E-flat major.
The performances will take place in the Anne and Howard Gottlieb Hall at the Merit School of Music, 38 South Peoria Street, Chicago, IL 60607.
