This year, for the first time, Wakeman Town Farm is launching a townwide appeal to
"Raise the Roof."
The farm's aging, leaky roof must be replaced. It will not last another winter. It is our highest priority for the health and safety of our stewards and our campers. The new roof will not only provide more adequate insulation and shelter to the farm stewards and their two young children, it will make the historic house safer and more energy efficient, and it will allow for Farm Board meetings, CSA storage, classes and other community events to take place in safe, dry indoor quarters, even when it rains and snows.
Our goal is to replace the roof and build a roughly 1,500-square foot indoor classroom space and gathering spot that features a working kitchen. In this space, we will host year-round kids' programs and camps (even on rainy or cold days) as well as culinary classes, wine dinners, pot luck suppers, films and community meetings.
